Our Program

At Metores Trust, we are dedicated to fostering self-sustaining and economically vibrant rural communities by generating viable employment and livelihood opportunities, and by supporting education initiatives. We achieve this through a blend of direct initiatives, led by our in-house team, and indirect initiatives, supported through NGO partners.

UDHYAM SAHELI

As Udhyam, housed under Metores Trust, completes 8 years of its journey, we pause with gratitude to reflect on the path travelled. What began as a small effort has grown into a movement that has so far enabled 750+ rural entrepreneurs, facilitated ₹8.5+ crore in business capital, supported self-employment creation, and generated 650+ additional jobs in the hills of Uttarakhand. This journey has been humbling, and deepened our belief in the power of entrepreneurship to transform lives.

With this foundation, Udhyam now steps into its 9th year on 1st September 2025 with renewed energy and sharper focus to strengthen women’s participation in entrepreneurship in the hills. Through the Udhyam Saheli program, officially launched in April 2025, we have set ourselves a bold goal to raise women’s participation from the current 13.5% to 25%, by offering a structured, time-bound business mentorship program exclusively for rural women.

KHUSHI KA EK DIN

About Khushi Ka Ek Din

Khushi Ka Ek Din was launched as a unique initiative to give hardworking mountain women a much-needed break from their daily drudgery. Life in remote hills often means limited employment, healthcare, and education, leaving no space for “me-time.” Conceived by Udhyam and Metores Trust, the program offers women a day of joy, laughter, and togetherness, while also strengthening the bond between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law.

A Day of Happiness

Each event is designed as a women-only celebration filled with fun and relaxation. Saas–Bahu duos attend together, enjoying folk performances, stand-up comedy, live music, and recreational games. The day includes local food, stalls of handmade products, beauty and wellness sessions, and even a cinema experience in a rural setting. Empowering workshops and lucky draws add to the sense of excitement and belonging.

Impact & Journey So Far

The first pilot in 2020 at Seem, Nainital reached 350 women from 10 villages. In 2023–24, Khushi Ka Ek Din scaled up to 15 events across five hill districts, impacting more than 5,000 women from 165 villages. For many, it was their first movie theatre experience, the first time to step out freely, and the first chance to simply be themselves. The project also inspired 15 new social leaders and mobilized ₹30 lakhs from 188 community contributors—proof of happiness spreading on a mass scale.

Future & Sustainability

Looking ahead, the program aims to evolve through partnerships with local entrepreneurs and sustained community support. Local leaders are being engaged to host similar events in the future, and Udhyam entrepreneurs have already begun raising funds to keep the spirit of Khushi Ka Ek Din alive, ensuring it continues to bring joy and empowerment to women in the hills.

MOUNTAIN FOLK FESTIVAL

Mountain Folk Festival

On September 3, 2023, the Mountain Folk Festival was hosted at the Himalayan Views Retreat, Ramgarh, in response to the growing demand for live music in the hills. The festival was designed to celebrate and promote Uttarakhand’s vibrant yet lesser-known music scene, while offering audiences an intimate experience limited to just a hundred people.

Performers

The stage came alive with four vibrant acts: InternalEye with Rohit Bhusan’s chill beats and electronic soundscapes alongside Vehaan and Jet; Sahar, blending Uttarakhand folk, Sufi, and Bollywood; Raagli, fusing diverse sounds into Hindi music; and Gaurav Pandey, reviving traditional Kumaoni folk with soulful vocals and acoustic guitar. The festival celebrated the rich musical diversity of the hills and showcased the raw talent of Uttarakhand’s youth.
