Our Vision

To foster self-sustaining and economically vibrant rural communities by generating viable employment and livelihood opportunities.

Our Mission

To work in the areas of Livelihoods & Education and give back to society from the large amount we have taken.

about us

Metores Trust, a blend of 'metal' and 'ores', was founded in 1980 by the late Mr. Om Wadhwa, founder of JV Electronics, a leading exporter of electronic components in India. Initially, the Trust supported education and health projects in Jharkhand & West Bengal. Over time, Metores Trust adopted a more hands-on approach by launching its own initiatives in Uttarakhand, where teams are now working directly with rural communities.

DIRECT INITIATIVES

Implemented and led by our in-house team, these programs directly connect with communities in the Uttarakhand hilly districts of the Kumaon region, creating opportunities, celebrating culture, and spreading joy in everyday lives:

UDHYAM

Udhyam founded in 2017 believes in fostering entrepreneurs who not only create sustainable livelihoods for themselves but also generate additional employment opportunities for others. Many of these entrepreneurs become role models, inspiring and supporting others to start their own businesses. This ripple effect contributes to a significant increase in employment and business opportunities. As a result, people in rural Uttarakhand gain greater freedom to choose whether to stay in their communities, migrate for work, or return to the hills with new opportunities.

UDHYAM SAHELI

As Udhyam, housed under Metores Trust, completes 8 years of its journey, we pause with gratitude to reflect on the path travelled. What began as a small effort has grown into a movement that has so far enabled 750+ rural entrepreneurs, facilitated ₹8.5+ crore in business capital, supported self-employment creation, and generated 650+ additional jobs in the hills of Uttarakhand. This journey has been humbling, and deepened our belief in the power of entrepreneurship to transform lives.

With this foundation, Udhyam now steps into its 9th year on 1st September 2025 with renewed energy and sharper focus to strengthen women’s participation in entrepreneurship in the hills. Through the Udhyam Saheli program, officially launched in April 2025, we have set ourselves a bold goal to raise women’s participation from the current 13.5% to 25%, by offering a structured, time-bound business mentorship program exclusively for rural women.

PAHAD KE RANG

An art mentorship program launched in 2020, providing a platform for rural artists in Kumaon to enhance skills, showcase artwork, and receive mentorship.

KHUSHI KA EK DIN

A happiness project celebrating women in Kumaon, providing a day of happiness for hardworking mountain women, fostering bonding between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law.

MOUNTAIN FOLK FESTIVAL

Organized in response to a demand for live music, promoting Uttarakhand’s vibrant music scene with local bands performing Kumaoni, Garhwali, and hybrid Indi-Kumaoni music.

INDIRECT INITIATIVES

Metores Trust supports education initiatives in Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Ghaziabad, and Pune. These are led by individuals or organizations closely associated with them. The Trust assesses needs and extends support to partner institutions or individuals accordingly.

UTTARAKHAND

In Uttarakhand, indirect initiatives focus on strengthening local schools, libraries, and youth programs by supporting infrastructure, teacher training, exposure visits, and community events. These efforts aim to provide children and young people in remote areas with better access to quality education, skill development, and opportunities for growth.

OTHER STATES

In other states, the initiatives extend support to underprivileged and marginalized groups through schools, residential institutions, and vocational programs. The focus here is on free education, nutrition, healthcare, and life skills, ensuring that children and vulnerable communities receive holistic support for long-term development and empowerment.
