UDHYAM

PREMA BISHT

Bainiya Boutique, Bhimtal

Prema Bisht’s story is one of resilience and entrepreneurial spirit. After undergoing a spinal surgery in 2016, she moved with her husband and two children to Bhimtal for medical reasons. Seizing the opportunity of being located in a town, Prema turned adversity into opportunity by launching Bainiya boutique – a tailoring shop with a loan of Rs. 50,000 from Udhyam.

With Udhyam’s support, she expanded into knitting and cosmetics. By 2022, her income had grown from 8,000 to 25,000 per month. Prema is now being guided by Udhyam to help achieve her aim of doubling her income in the next two years.

“Udhyam has taught me a lot, including how to run my business, price my products and so much more. For me, Udhyam is a school, and I am their student,” says Prem

PAHAD KE RANG

SUGAM GAUR

“PKR is the best thing that happened to me. It helped me launch my artistic career.”

Sugam has been with PKR since the very beginning. A major milestone in his journey was securing one of only two seats available to external students for the Master’s in Fine Arts programme at the prestigious Delhi College of Arts—a big win for both him and the PKR programme. The continuous mentorship and exposure provided by PKR, combined with Sugam’s dedication and hard work, have truly accelerated his career.

I joined PKR in 2021. Since then, I’ve gained invaluable exposure to the world of the arts, something I could’ve only dreamt of, coming from a small town. Through PKR, I have been able to connect with artists, art collectors, and people with deep knowledge in the domain, and it has completely changed my perspective. Artist Jaganmohan Bangani has mentored me in ways that I couldn’t have even imagined. PKR has aided me in launching my artistic career.

“I really enjoyed being part of the event. If organisations like Udhyam continue to support women, it would really propel them ahead in life.”

Participant from Nainital

“I was 13 when I got married. I’ve spent my entire life in the mountains. I’ve never been to school. This event was truly special and unlike any other. Thank you, Udhyam, for bringing such an experience to our village.”
